I got a window for the front for $6 off ebay and it's great, with this and the hatch on the top will I need opening door windows or can I just make some fixed ones and save a few hundred (I was lucky with the front window)

Most regret not installing door windows.

It takes more than one window/opening to get a cross breeze.

Laying in a box with no ventilation is not fun...

I say yes it gets really warm about mid July.

Opening windows are a REAL good thing!

One source you might look at for cheap/free windows are old camper shells. Lot of times folks will give you one just to get it out of the yard and to keep from having to pay for the landfill to take it.

you don't really have to put an opening window in the door. You have a good size window up top, all you need is a little cross-ventilation. How about a vent in the bottom half of the door and a window in the top? You could make a cut out type vent like the old plans have (page 6 of the 1947 plans). Make a small version of the type where you prop it open with a rod.

If you had that same huge window in the rear of the TD, I would say the hell with door windows.

Because even with side vents, not door windows, you're just not gonna get any real cross ventilation, which is the simplest, most refreshing cooling that you're gonna find.

Small vents aren't gonna cut it, and unless the wind is blowing directly into that huge window, your gonna sweat you're rear off.

I was thinking along the lines of 20" x 6", so I guess that's not really that small. I don't think most window openings are much bigger than that.

With that size up front and your vent on top,you should be fine. Nice build!!

I've got a window in each of the doors and two windows up front ....................the breeze and air circulation are just great.

you could just have a screen door and leave the regular solid door open when it's hot. i've thought of a new way to do this, and am going to implement on a project i have coming up...

buy an old tent at a rummage or thrift store. cut out the door and make a small frame for the inside of your tear door. then just unzip your "tent" door to enter the tear... solves having something custom sewn...

haven't tried it yet, but in theory i think it's a great idea. this time of year you can even buy a new tent cheap... at least cheaper than a custom sewing job. when it's done it will kinda resemble Camp Inn's screen doors.

So the general consensus is opening windows, well I guess opening they will be The only problem I have is second hand parts etc are not very available down here in Australia, I guess the weather is kind to caravans and they last forever. New windows are about $160 a piece.

Steve F... I'd also vote for "opening" windows in the doors. They can often be found on ebay reasonable. I've bought quite a few for $25. - $30. or so. But, I guess the shipping to down under could be killer?
