Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

True my trailer has been taken camping but it has bad doors and no real windows.

I am unsure how to install windows and have never framed a door other from my 1 hr per door I did to go camping the next day.

Where on this forum are direction on doing so. that is do we have a door sticky or Window Sticky on the basics.



in time I will figure it out.

Ron, I am definately not an expert and very much novice. But on the windows it depends on what kind you have and if you have a clamp ring that seperates from the window.

Basically most of the windows I have seen come apart and you build a frame for that to fit. the width thickness of the frame is what ever the depth of the window and frame is. For trailers I think from 1" to 1.5" but depends on the window.

Mine were 2", I built the frame around the inset of the window as you can see here.


Then the clamp ring as I call it is shown in this one. The window is basically clamped to the frame. Some slide windows will have screw holes in the bottom of the framing to screw them in.



Different windows are different install but I think they all folllow that same basic rule.

As you can see my windows and doors were done together. But if you are using the cut out pieces of the doors like I did there are several ways to do it. First the frame is built to fit. If its a cut out then it is pretty tight fit just sand some to losen that and build your fraom around that. The inside interior frame can be done several ways. I used a seal with an aluminum frame.



Initially I was going to use 1" x 3/4" to frame inside but that trim worked so well didnt feel I needed and had a very nice tight fight on the door with no gaps. May need to do that down the road but time will tell.

Hope this helps and maybe someone who can explain it with alot more knowledge then I have will add to this to help you as well.

That helps alot. I have an idea .... but the walls are already up. The door I see you used a boat hinge, most folks use the piano hinge I have a piano hinge on now .... I have doors on there now but i built them in an hour for a teardrop meet near my home and you can tell they were slapped on. you can see the gaps and they are ugly .

I never paid much attention to doors before until now. I love to lean I am getting the idea of it now.

I cheated I installed self storing aluminum windows. Cut the hole small and installed them on the inside ( They normally install on the outside )
Small screws and some trim and good to go.

These were sample windows on a display. Many of the lumber yards have them cluttering corners of their warehouse you just have to ask the right person. They can usually be purchased for little or nothing. I was given 6 all different styles and colors but what the hey. You know no one has noticed yet that Chubby has a brown and a forrest green window.
