Framing with Aspen?

The local home centers sell Aspen in various lengths, mostly 1x4 and 1x6. This wood is considerably lighter than pine or poplar. It holds nails and screws well, and is sometimes edge-glued for wider widths. Anyone ever used it for wall framing?

I started framing mine with pine
Found it twisted way to much so i used cedar for all frame work
cedar did not twist and warp like pine or spruce will

Well prohandyman,
I'm not sure it wouldn't work as long as it will hold glue and screws well.
I think you can use pretty much anything to frame, as long as it is not warped and is as straight as you can find. The framing is just for support and for skinning. How much does it weigh, compared with pine? Is there enough weight savings to justify the cost difference?

prohandyman... A lot of furniture is framed with aspen. It should work fine for teardrops. Go for it.

I use aspen for drawer sides, or any place that doesn't need stain or poly. Aspen doesn't finish well. But it's good for the structural stuff you are talking about.
