Would it casue any problems(expansion, contraction)if I spliced plywood together with the grain going at 90 degrees to each other?

Think about it, plywood is already spliced at 90-degrees. I do it all the time.

...yes indeed, remember that alternate plys are croos to each other to begin with...........

Unless you're trying to match an outer finish wood grain ... We spliced a lot of ply on our TD and covered the seams with "utility" battens which are designed to mount other gear such as outside showers, flagpoles, and awnings on both sides...
