I am building a painted camper. (exterior house paint on plywood) I would like to install aluminum trim around the edges after the paint has been applied to the camper. I am still undecide if I want to use Edge molding w/ an insert or just plain aluminum angle.

Is there any special steps I should take to keep water from getting under the trim?

Should I worry about water getting into the screw holes?

I used polyurethene caulk under all of my trim pieces. You could probably use silicone also, but I have not used it myself. I would say that you should always put some kind of sealant in any screw holes that you make!!

I used plumbers putty tape. My trailers been in some pretty nasty downpours this past summer and not a leak to be found.

Will the polyurethene caulk creat a good seal between painted wood and aluminum?

Should I place a dab of it in the predrilled holes before I put the screws in?

Thanks everyone for your help. I have a long way to go.

Yes it should do a fine job.

Yes, I would advise that you do.
