Painting over latex house paint

I am working on an old TT that has beenpainted with house paint and would like to paint over it. I really don't want to get into stripping etc. Any ideas on a reasonably easy fix ? Thanks

Hi DB.

Clean it (wash it well) scuff or sand, do any sealing or caulking needed, then re-paint with latex.

(you can put latex over oil, but not oil over latex...)

Something else to think about is the new paint will only hold as well as what is under it. If the paint you are going to cover is not holding good, the new paint will not either. I have seen people go to a lot of trouble to paint over something only to have the undercoats let go and start peeling.

I would try pressure washing first, then a little sanding on the edges of leftover paint to make them smooth,one coat of some stainkill/ primer type paint, then paint with latex enamel . If you want it shiny get high gloss .

Thanks for the replies. I'm still doing the rot replacing thing . Just thinking down the road about the paint.

I'm not sure what you're specific needs are, but you may want to look at elastomeric paint. Stuff is like liquid rubber, but it will seal/self-prime onto latex.
