The new Alegria

Postby SmokeyBob » Wed Dec 26, 2007 1:24 am

Been working on a new design for our camper. Basically the same shape only bigger, and no side doors. We will be able to stand up in this one.

Now If I can just figure out how to show the insides.

That looks great!

The Standy I'm working on is about 9" wider and a foot longer and about Foot taller when the top is pushed up.

Still working on the Shetchup after I do a study on the pop-up details. I'm still not sure which way to go in the design. I might just place it up for discussion in a week or so.

S Bob , if you make it 6' wide , you can sleep sideways , lots more room ...

For sure, my tear is 6' wide and I'm building a futon in it feels like a lot more room.

I had thought about a 6' wide but decided to go with 5'. I need to keep the weight down as much as I can. There will be two 6' beds on each side with a space between them. I'll be able to cover that opening if I want one big bed. There's enough room at the ends of the beds to put a A/C on one side and a porta potty on the other. On the A/C side I'll install a shelf above it where I can cook on it with my electric griddle.

I'm trying to build a self contained camper so if the weather is bad we can just stay inside. I hate getting dressed out side in the cold. I'm doing another drawing with SketchUp showing the insides. I'll post it when I get it finished.

Bob , Most of the weight is in the trailer itself and those sides... adding an extra foot of width only adds the weight of the extra foot of top/bottom /front/back ...can't be that much , but gives you app. 24 cu. ft.more room on a standard TD..8sq. ft of floorspace ..on my Big TD, the cabin is 6'X9'... we call, it the Great Hall, room for a King Size bed/Futon +...

After seeing your trailer at Lake Bistineau, I can't wait to see your effort on this one.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

I debated about a rear door for a long time but finally deceided I wanted some outside rear storage access and went with a side door. Didn't really need standing height but and glad I made it height enough to sit (inside is about 4'9") I do love the front window/sunroof as it really opens up the interior.

Have fun building.

SmokeyBob I'd check out your bed size before I get much farther. I built a single bed/couch in my trailer that is 5'wide. The bed is 30" wide and I'd really like it 2-3" wider. Minimum size I'd say you could use at all is about 27" wide (if you're small) and with two of those in a 5' wide trailer that leaves a 6" aisle not accounting for any wall thickness.

I think I would build 6' wide over the axles to gain the extra space. Even in mine I now wish I'd gone a bit wider and completly covered the fender for the extra room inside.

Here is finished interior:

And here is during construction, you can see how little floor space is left with a 30" bed in a 5' trailer

Here is what the inside might look like. The space between the beds will be filled in with a center board at night giving us about a 5' x 6' sleeping space. The lower shelf at the head of the bed would fold up against the wall when not in use. Thanks for the thoughts on going 6' wide. I could still go that way. I won't start on this till it gets warmer and if I have the money saved up.

I'll put in a shelf just above the cooler for cooking on with my electric grill. The cooler will be on sliders to gain access to it. And I'll probably move the A/C a little higher and it will be on sliders also.

And in case anyone wants to know, that's Charmin Extra Soft next to the Porta Potty. ;)
