Iwas wondering about skinning my tear in the winter ( average temp here about 35 degrees) I know some say its better in warm weather, others have said cool weather... But is it ok in winter conditions? Thankx

From my research, I think the general consensus is that warmer is better, as you'd rather have the AL contract and tighten up than expand and buckle. But I'd love to hear what others have to say, as I'm about at that point in the build myself.

Of course, it doesn't get much below 65 here in the Winter, but everyone's idea of freezing is relative. I admire you hearty souls that can brave the cold and snow. For me, snow is something to be enjoyed from a distance, preferably on a TV screen, or perhaps a nice picture on a Christmas card!

We have applied the skins in winter BUT our winters are much warmer than yours...if you go ahead and apply the AL, I would cut it 1/8th to 1/4" narrower to allow for summer time expansion...FYI, we float AL skins, using no adhesive to apply them, using the trim and other exterior parts to capture and hold them in place.......

If your fingers freeze to the aluminum, it is just a tad too cold to install :D

Rob, warmer is better!

I sheeted my tear when the temperature was 85 to 90 degrees. I've never had any problems with it - no pillowing or pulling loose.

The tongue test is a MUCH more efficeint way to confirm if its too cold to work the aluminum......but of course you may have a visit from the Fire Department to contend with to remove you from the sheet!!

It was a whopping 6 degrees F here this am on the way to work...I think I will wait to run that test myself....say till May!
