I finished putting CPES on the exterior of my shell and was wondering what grit sandpaper I should use before I prime and paint to get the best finish

1 or more coats of CPES? What type primer/ paint are you planning on? Some can hide scratches much better than others. If it's all smooth and sealed, just scuff it to give it some tooth for the paint to bond to, don't get carried away with sanding. If you get into the wood with your sanding, it's probably going to need to be touched up in that area with another application of CPES. Kinda depends on what you want your final finish to look like. If you are going to apply an automotive finish, then it's different deal. Doug

I put on one coat of CPES and then epoxy filler on all the voids which I still need to sand smooth. I will then be painting it with a coat of Interlux Prekote and two coats of Interlux Brightside . My plan was to sand it with 220 grit and then 300 grit n between the two final coats of Interlux Brightside. I plan on using the rolling and tipping method. (I think thats what they call it. I found a how to video on Youtube on the application of several Interlux paints that was pretty good.

If you go to the RotDoctor's website, there is an "Ask Dr. Rot" section where you can ask your question. Dr. Rot will reply with exactly what you should do, or at least he did when I asked my question.

Best wishes for a beautiful, flaw-free finish!
