so i had to build this copper chimney cap at work and it got me thinking... it would be totally sweet to skin a TD in copper. cleans up nice, easy to work, great corrosion resistance. beautiful metal. unfortunatly its uber spendy. a bit heavy too, but not unreasonable. i just think it would make for a gorgeous skin.

How about judt trimming one out in copper? Maybe a woody trimmed in copper!

That would be a different looking tear for certain. However copper turns green after a period of time if not taken care of.

But I suppose the aluminum has the same charactersitics of showing corrosion if not taken care of as well.

A clear coat would maybe help.

That would be somthing to see though a tear skinned in copper.

...yep, we have talked about a copper skinned Td, since the inception of this board...it would be so cool BUT oh so pricey ...we are still hoping that Camp-Inn or one of the other maufacturers will make a "Secial Edition" copper skinned tear one day.........

You know here in Arizona (the copper state)(grand canyon state),our historic license plates are made of copper. When I got my plates from the MVD the lady told me to keep a close eye on them because of drug addicts will steal them and melt them down to get money for there drugs. That much copper on a tear and someone would probably car jack you. I remember hearing kids getting shot just for there tennis shoes.

the turning green, or natural patina, of the copper would actually be kinda neat. some people actually prefer it to new copper. also, once a patina layer forms it protects the copper underneath, unlike rust which would just keep corroding.

I'll have to say its crossed my mind. But the price and weight killed the idea quickly. Altho it would be cool to have an aluninuim skin and copper flames on the sides . Copper would make an easily worked trim.
I used to work at a sheet metal shop way back . I can remember going to job sites and the drug addicts would have stolen the little bit of copper that was stubbed out of the slab for the plumbing. The plumbing guy would be ready to kill ,if he only knew who.

We have a copper gazing ball, it said that you could clear coat it if you want to keep it shiny, or you could let it patina (turn green). At any time, you could clear coat it to stop it when it reached your desired geen-ness.

I am thinking about copper panels in my inside cabinet doors. I have mahogany plywood sides. The copper would look good with the wood. I will have to scronge some solid mahogany for the frames. I thought about some patina but my wife wants bright copper. I can clearcoat it to keep it bright. I bought some copper sheet years ago before the price went out of sight.

We thought of using opened up Al beer cans , applied sorta' like fish scales ...different brands for decorative patterns ,and it would be certainly more fun getting the materials ... not necessarily cheaper
