I'm planning to build a 5'0 wide tear but haven't been able to locate 5' wide aluminum. Any help appreciated.

Mark, one of the best places to find wide AL, is a facility that repairs or build 18wheeler trailers...they will have it in 102(3)" widths, onna roll that they can cut off what you need...I can get 5' wide from my local AL sheet supplier but that doesn't help you out...you might also try SAP.com, a local sign builder or supplier to race cars......

Did you mean SAF.com? They ship 5x10 but the freight jacks the price. I am trying to get another builder to go in on a shipment. Two sheets $192 + $75 shipping. 4 sheets free shipping.

Okay.another question.
Where to get the a/c and furnace units shown in many trailers?

I'd say you got a pretty good price if you're getting 5X10 X.40 or so. I'd opt to buy 4 sheets and get the free shipping. Chances are you'll eventually end up using the extra sheets for something. You just have somewhere to keep them without them getting all banged up.

I just checked with a modified racecar chasis builder today(they use sheet aluminum to make the bodys), he gave me a price of between $70-$80 for 5 x 10 white, and 4 or 5 dollars more for black or red.

That's still a lot cheaper than I paid. I went the semi trailer route so there is a lot left over. I built mine so that it is 60in inside so I actually neede something a little bit wider than 62in. I have a big ole roll in the shed that I cut off the original roll.

Mark, do a google search on sheet aluminum suppliers. I live in Minnesota. and came up with 4 different suppliers in the twin cities that had it in stock. All aluminum is sold by the pound, so the width makes no difference. Only problem is that almost all the companies told me to come and get it as the shipping would be $200.oo. Now all I have to do is find a friend with a 5' wide truck to borrow.

I got mine from SAF.com Great service. If you want to get to the 200lb mark for free shipping, order your extrusions from them too. I ordered mine from them with the sheet. They shipped all the extrusions full length 16'-18' so no seams. I ordered mine on Thursday and recieved it the following Tuesday.
They only 5 wide I could get from them was .063. It was a bear to bend around the radius but I know it's not going to ding easily.

The price I was quoted may be a special price(brother of employee discount). I have checked with Integris Metals in the past. As far as discounts I alsmost have all my bases covered. I work with sheet metal and can get smaller pieces, mostly steel, for scrap price(around 60 cents/pound) and can if the company uses the size tubing I need, I can talk them into ordering a length or two extra and then I can get it at cost. My brother works at a racecar chassis shop and can get a break on stuff like the aluminum. And my mom works at a lumber yard so I can get her discount on lumber.

I found 5' x 10' x .040 here locally for $86 a sheet at a place that sells metal. I don't know if they ship or how much it would cost if they did.

Thanks for the link, Chuck. Gonna give em a call right now as i know exactly where that place is. A lot easier than driving all the way thru the cities pulling a trailer.

As soon as I figure out this pic posting thing, I will post pics of my build which is loosly based on the Gruman 2.
