Fender Help

I know it has been a while since I posted but I try to spend more free time working on the teardrop than on the computer.

This forum has been a great help in answering questions. Just do a quick search and and carry the answer to the shop. I have arrived at a point that I need some help in deciding if I should buy fenders or build. I want to be finished so the idea of buying appeals to me. I also love the warm look of my "woodie" teardrop and don't want to ruin it with cheap fenders.

Anyway here is a picture with the epoxy skin and first coat of spar varnish. Give me your opinions as to what would look best.

THanks again for all the help.

Are you going to keep the trailer wheels pictured in photo? If so, I think the biggest negative to the looks of your trailer would be the wheels so getting some regular round fenders from Northern Tool would look fine. If you put some other vintage looking wheels on it, then a vintage looking fender would look great.

In my opinion the Vintage Looking Fenders would look fantastic.
Youve done a real nice job on the tear :applause: :applause:

What size tires are you using at present?

Can you get a direct side photo? I would then do some photo shop work and try the different style fenders..

Gee my opinion after looking at it for awhile is most definitely the Vintage Style..but thats me..

Third vote for vintage fenders, but also some updated wheels, Maybe some nice baby moons?

Your wheels look to be 12". If so, that kinda limits what you can get for fenders. Check with Grant at Lil Bear for fenders that will fit 12" wheels. http://www.lilbear.teardrops.net/parts3.html#fenders

I was thinking along the same lines, and extra wide white wall tires.. 8) 8)

Now why does Leons Woody come to mind...

I had planned on going with the 12" wheels that are pictured, but that was keeping me from the vintage fenders. I think that there is someone on the board making 12" fiberglass fenders, which might be a possibility.

I am not opposed however to 13" rims and a more classic wheel. I believe that I have the clearance for it. Does that mean changing the hubs as well? I have a 5 bolt pattern.

I was hoping to get by without spending a whole lot more money, but it is a while before I can get camping so there is time. :worship:

3 votes for vintage anybody else want to chime in?

Wow, I like Leon's Woody. I was thinking that I should have a trim piece running horizontal down the center. Now I know that it needs it! I love the look of the tires and the fenders.

Maybe money is not an issue :?

Great Looking TD.
I was reading Sumners build page last night. He shows how he made his fenders. Heres a link to that page.

Hi,

Your woodwork looks very nice!

The size of the wheels in relation to the trailer can make or break "the look".

The current wheels just don't do much for the trailer...

Does anyone know if the 5 bolt hubs that I have will handle a different wheel? Or do I have to change out the axle and hubs to get a more vintage wheel look?

I purchased some 13" wheels (see my album) and I just got the tires mounted. I will be putting them on my trailer Sunday to see how well they fit with no modification. I'll let you know. I figure the worst I will need is an adapter that will extend the wheels out a little.
