Hehr Windows

Does anyone have a picture, diagram or a link to show how the trim ring fits together with a Hehr window. I looked online and can't see anything. I just received trim rings (damaged and will need to go back) but I can't see how they fit together --- right now its 3 votes for 3 that the screw holes have been drilled onto the wrong edge surface.

...look and see if the screw holes in the ring line up with a groove in the window...this will be the groove that the screen is pressed into...that is how the clamp rings on the radiused corner windows I use are mounted...should use a SS#8x1/2(?) screw to mount......

This is a good a picture as I can get. The screw holes go into the recessed/inner part of the ring. Hope it helps.

This first pic shows the window in the door frame from the outside.

You can see the exterior screwholes that will hold the window in and then a flexible tape can be placed over the screws in the channel

This is from the inside with no trim


This is the trim ring -- you can see the screw holes on the flat surface nearest to the inside of the ring -- nearest to the actual window.


Now this is with the trim ring around. If you look carefully you'll see the screw holes nearest the glass and with no complementary screwholes beneath -- just black window frame.--- I believe they should be on the other flat surface furthest away from the window and actually into the wood surround. It certainly fits that way but not any other way.


It's difficult to explain -- perhaps these pics help -- the ring was made to fit a 3/4 inch thick wall which it does when placed this way.

Designs may vary with time, but my 1979 vintage radius-corner Hehr windows install with retaining rings like those already shown, and the screws through the ring go into a groove in the window frame.

The first image shows a window without the retaining ring. Four screw holes are visible along each edge. The second image shows a detail at one of the screw "holes", although it's really just a slightly widened part of the groove in the frame, where the screw has wedged its way in. Self-tapping screws are used.



The proper ring depends on the wall thickness. For the very thin shell of my fiberglass trailer, the ring is quite deep, reaching out to the wall. For a thick plywood wall, it would be less deep, but still reaching out. For a thick built-up wall (thicker than the window frame), the ring looks "reversed", reaching inward; however, the rings are not actually reversible... you need to get the right one for your wall thickness.

My window didn't come with screw holes. I created them myself. The trim ring is actually supposed to be the reverse of what you have here but if it fits you can use it. Just needs to be tight to keep the water out. No reason you can't add screws to the wood side if you like it better that way but you need them in the window too.
