Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Can someone help me out here? I really want a nice set of fenders for mt TD but the ones I find are high dollar then the shipping on top of that is almost out of reach. I have searched for days and have only found 3 or 4 suppliers of the custom fenders. Any ideas where else to look? I'm not sure if I can build my own but I might give it a shot. Thanks to each of you for your time and knowledge.

I'm afraid if you want nice fenders you either build your own or dig deep and buy the ones you find. There are really no nice, cheap fenders, at least not the kind you're looking for.

...AMEN to that...if you want the nice "swoopy" vintage look, you will have to dig deep and pay around 300 bucks for 'em...

p.s. nice, round, steel fenders can be had for around 20bucks(or less) a piece...................MJ

When people ask about how much it cost to build, I tell people that the fenders were the most expensive single thing on the whole trailer. The good thing is that I get "fender envy" at some gatherings. You are limited to a small number of vendors, but the vendors you have to choose from know a lot about teardrops.

I came across a picture of someones trailer fender where he used plywood which was high in numbers of layers: http://tnttt.com/album_ ... c_id=15795

Where can one purchase this type of plywood since most house supply's (Lowes or Home Depot) won't carry this quality of plywood; usually its 3 to 5 layers for normal plywood or 5 to 8 layers for birch/oak veneer plywood depending on thickness of course?

P.S. I remember working on the mockup of the HondaJet when I lived in NC and they had 1/4 ply which was something like 8ply, it was awesome plywood. Made great radio control airplane firewalls!

Well...you can make some pretty nice fenders...but it takes time...and you need to have an idea of what you want...and you need a pattern to go from...



For what it's worth...I'm using Grant's on mine!!!!

Pete, I buy thru a cabinet shop and get 13ply 3/4" and 11ply 1/2"..........................

I used to make fiberglass fenders for 12" wheels. (Grant makes them now). Anyway, if you want to go to all the work it is very doable for about $200 -250 in materials. Just make a plug out of wood (or other suitable material), then make molds, then make the fenders themselves!

I had some problems with using the wrong release wax, but it worked out in the end.

One thing for sure . . . the 'best custom fenders' won't be the cheapest - They SHOULD be the most expensive . . . . unless some guy selling an inferior product has his seriously overpriced

Usually, you 'get what you pay for' . . . . if you're a careful shopper, you most always do

It sounds like you're not really looking for the 'best' fenders . . . . you already found those - You want something much less expensive, so you shouldn't expect them to be 'the best' also . . . . should you?

and I think mine are sure "one off"" and diffrent!

But can you really call them fenders???? I think that's really a wall with a big bump ain't it?? Actually that's almost too cool to be legal!!

John....you forgot the paint! I'm pretty sure it's not just a HD latex! One off, yeah...different...you betcha...wonderful/ stunning....for sure!!!! Doug
