Just curious approx. how long it takes to build a standard tear? We are thinking on building.

That is a hard question to answer. That's like asking how much it cost. It can take months to years. It depends on how much time you have & yours skills. Mine took 3 1/2 months to get it to a usable state. I now have been working on it for almost 2 years & I am not to the point I would call it done. I keep finding more thing to do or change.

I built mine in 4 months and I had never really built anything before. It did, however, pretty much take over my life. I worked on it most days after work for 2 or so hours and pretty much every weekend both Sat and Sun (probably took 3 or 4 off). But...it was so much fun to see it all come together...it was totally worth it! :applause: :applause:

I built my 4x10 in 10 very full busy weekends. The weekends I wasn't building, I was planning... and of course, some weekends are unaccounted for... so what is that, about 25 weekends or so?

I started mine in June last year (2007) and expect to have it done before June this year (2008). That's working on it every second weekend and a little during the week in holidays etc. The build has not taken over my life and has been quite leisurely really. I also built the frame from scratch which ate up a fair bit of time as money has always been slowly dribbled into the build so I've had to wait for parts occasionally.

Doing it this way has meant the cost has been relatively unnoticeable and it's been fun :)

Cheers
Steve

It took me 384 hours to build ours and it was a lot of fun.

Three years and counting, but sometimes months can go by when I don't have a chance to work on it.

 Lets see 2 years this May and I'm not done  Not even close
But I've got over 2,000 miles on it and 4 gatherings so I figure I can take my time finishing

How much time do you have? I spent one month going in circles.

On the bright side...my capital outlay has been spread out over time, I've really enjoyed the T&TTT e-talk, have gained lots of ideas on the board, and I've had the time to do as good as I can do on the build...

My first one was spread out over 10 months. Sometimes I worked on it full time and sometimes I had to wait weeks or months for key parts. I also improved on it off & on for a year as ideas evolved. My second build I'm hoping to have it completed in two months working mostly full time on it. You need to plan way ahead on supplies or it will take longer. I started #2 ten days ago and have the chassis built, walls & doors cut out and machined and floor made. I'm waiting on the axle so I can start putting it together. :) Danny

I built my woody in 5 1/2 months of sketching, planning, woodworking, sanding, varnishing and finally towing it to the 10th Dam gathering while the finish was still tacky. My second one, a narrower, 6 footer only took 3 weeks in order for it to be "sleep-worthy". It's very light weight, cheap, simple and "stackable". Give it a shot, it all depends how detailed you get and how much time you can spend on it, full time or part time.
