Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I'm building my TD based on the Generic Benroy plans. The wall attachment procedure calls for attaching the walls to the sides of the 2x2 framing of the floor. I have a couple of questions I could use some help with:

What is the best type of screw to attach the wall panels to the floor framing? Should it be a lag type screw with washer or some other type? Whatever I use, I would want to countersink the head in order to get a smooth side. In any case I will also be using polyurathane glue in additions to the screws.

Should there be some type of cleat or angle attached to the wall so that the wall panel also sits atop the floor in addition to the screws into the side of the framing? It seems to me that only the screws in the side would not provide that much support. Am I correct on this?

I used 1.25 inch #8 Deck screws

I used deck screws as well. Screw and glue should be fine. No need for a cleat or angle to support the walls as long as you're going into 2x2s.

I used deck screws and glue but chickened out and put some alum. angle along the edge for extra.....umph. The alum covers the edge and is glued and screwed from the top and sides. A bit of over kill but it didn't fall down soooooooooo.

Miriam, did you use the aluminum angle on the inside of the TD driving the screws down into the floor and sideways into the trailer wall?

I use Titebond III and galvanized deck screws every 6".

But you have to do what feels right to you. If adding that angle will let you sleep at night, then, by all means, do it.

ditto on what mike said. titebond III and galvanized deck screws is the ticket. I went about every 10" and that seems to work fine.

You can also do as my father would do and go crazy with the screws. I think he added about 300lbs. of weight to his trailer with just screws. I quess it gave him peice of mind.
