Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Nephew needed project and I was a bit selfish.....needed an experimental project to test out some ideas before I build my own!! Seems y'all give great advice when you are looking at builds so we thought we'd share the "experiment".

Did this much in about 14 total hours and gonna skin the interior tomorrow. Trailer has a few more hours in it and should be done later this week so the cabin and trailer can be joined.

Have gotten a bunch of help so far and really appreciate the encouragement. Thanks!!

Yes, it will be basically a window. using 1/8" lexan clear for in side and 3/8" on outside. To expensive to buy the lexan tinted($80 total for what I'm getting now) so we will tint the inside surface of the outside piece. Going to seal the edges and use bolts with plastic chrome caps on every "corner" of the Cross. Bolts will pass through wall and secure both pieces of lexan. Going for the 3d look on the outside.

Other window from a motorhome and the door will be on the rear. Just finished cutting the skin for the first interior wall and ot came out AWESOME . Second skin started and will continue after a bit of lunch!!

When I return I will post today's progress!! Wish me luck!!

Question..thinking of using floor tile adhesive for securing skin. Cheap and easy to work with. Any drawbacks? Don't like liquid nails and limited variety at local hardware.

Nephew liked that!! Gonna be skinned in black late model race car aluminum with checker plate on front and rear. (subject to change of course) Should talk him into red though with black trim.

Could call it "The Fokker trailer". I have referred to it by a similiar name a few times already!!

Back to the Gee-rage!!

Here is the progress so far today. Ready to start light sand and poly but clean up stuff forgot poly and tack cloth. Off to the store!!

Not sure how much he really wanted it. Our socially and politically correct school district mandates that seniors do what they call a Senior Project. I think it's just somthing else to be used to justify the teachers salaries due to the fact that they are "mentored" throughout the project. The project is NOT done at school though.

having a blast doing it but it aggravates me that it is something that has been MANDATED by a board that spends huge amounts of my tax dollars "edjucating" our kids AND now they feel like that they need to mandate some more of my money get spent on something else!

Enough ranting!! Off to hardware dept. at wal mart. Forgot to buy enough brushes for poly!! Hope to get first coat on today.

Trailer tacked in place and will be here this afternoon. Gonna set cabin on to get axle location figured out before welding solid. Sure wish it was warmer!!

First coat of poly on. Should have spent more time sanding. Will look good though. Went to Lowes and spent another $160 in insulation, hinges. door handle, ceiling skin and rope for interior trim.

Figured out something though.....you can read for hours here and get lots of great info but until you start making mistakes none of it seems applicable to your build!

Any suggestions about my floor tile cement to hang interior skins??

Okay. big day here! Got first coat of poly on both interior skins and tried to get garage warm enough for the process. That lead to airing out the house after 3 hours of drying time. Wife not impressed.

new plan: Install skins first and then poly. Nope, still too cold in garage to glue up skins.

Okay, lets think....need to get cabin area warm enough to glue and poly..IDEA!! Put in foam for roof, hang skins temporarily , put up ceiling temporarily then add small electric heater and fan for venitilation leaving garage door open keeping wife happy and family alive!!

Got the foam in and skins in and was overcome....by exhaustion!! Will continue tomorrow if I recover!

Coming along nicely!! My banner is falling down AGAIN! While it's down do ya wanna trade??

It is really really hard to get glue to dry in winter. Now my opinion of glue.......tightbond or pl. I think carpet glue stinks I tacked my side skins up with small panel tacks and will put the trim in. I wasn't able to find the wood I wanted and decided to look for it, but finish the camper.

You guys are doing a great job so keep it up. The poly looks better after a few coats.
