Radio Install

Postby Mary K » Sun Mar 16, 2008 9:15 pm

I had a Radio given to me for the Teardrop a year ago, but i never was inspired to install it until this weekend. In the beginning I had plans to install a radio, but after camping a few time found its really not a necessity. Other than Camp Hosts singing Karaoke Ha-ha, most folks don't play radios at the campground. BUT, It was free and just sitting in the closet and I had nothing better to do....

Image

I guess it will be nice to listen to music to fall asleep with. :shhh: Or I could crank it and do a little Teardrop Dance! :dancing :dancing :dancing

I'm not all that happy with the speaker install though.

  I just let'em hang so I could hear if the radio worked.

Actually I need to purchase thinner speakers. These are to thick to mount flush in the wall. I had made a box to install them in, but I could tell it was going to be a head knocker. :?

 Head knockers are bad. I see you pre-wired for them at least. I was thinking I need to put Mike one in. Last time we went out I didn't take a radio or a TV. He finished his book too fast.

Mary, I know you've already installed your radio but maybe these two pictures will give you some food for thought for speaker placement. Note the door clips by the speakers that make it easy to remove and replace the faceplate. :D Danny

Mary...great minds think alike!! Nice install!!
I picked up a car radio/cd/mp3 player that I'm going to install this spring. I like having some music and I listen to some podcasts too. This radio has a USB jack on it so I can plug in a thumbdrive and listen to anything I want to transfer from my computer. And there's a auxillary input jack for either an MP3 player or DVD player too. Making use of the 12v power on the TV will definitely cut down on my use of batteries and having to keep numerous devices charged up.
The rear shelves on my TD have room enough for mounting some small speakers and I want to install two more speakers in the galley so that I can listen outdoors as well.

Thanks Y'all.

Aunti M, Teach Mike to fish!

Danny, that is a good Idea. :applause: Believe or not I used 2 hidden screws & Hot glue to install the woodwork for the radio. So it is possible to redo it. I love the door clip Idea. ;)

I'll have to see is I have enough room for the speakers up front.

Mr. Buzz, Oooo, I wish I had the USB port. But I do have a Aux Input for a TV/DVD. Remember to make sure when you buy the speakers that they will fit.

Thanks Heikki!

I really am in a conundrum about the speakers. I located the wires in a bad spot. :?

Plan yours well.

Mary just an idea, build some some speaker boxes that go the radius of your wall.. Just big enough to provide small space around the speaker covers..

Gee I hope you know what I mean.. I cant draw worth beans on computer but the speaker boxes to go with the radius of the wall there..

I think it would look very nice.. just deep & wide enough to fit the speakers.. ;)

Hey Mary....
If you like the USB port, how about a radio with an SD card reader!! WalMart has a radio/CD/MP3 player with USB port AND an SD slot for $80!! I do some much stuff on SD cards these days that it's almost worth upgrading.

Don't forget that a radio is handy for keeping track of the weather. I really wished I had one last summer in Nebraska when there were tornado warnings. I picked up a cheap car radio this winter but haven't installed it. Then my kids gave me one of those little radios that charge with a crank. It has a light, a flashing red light, siren, and will charge a cell phone. I may still install the car radio though. Weather reports are necessary when you sleep in a matchbox!

Heikki, I used a roundover router bit or as I call it a bull nose bit. If you use one make sure you lightly run the router backwards first and then go forward so you don't have wood blow out and less burns. :D Danny

Bob, Thats a good idea. I'll look into it  Thanks.

Heikki,
 Yaa, I have thought of doing that. But I am kind of burnt out doing complicated woodworking stuff and just don't have the energy/time to mess with it. I'd rather go camping on the weekends now. At one point I did make boxes and they didn't turn out very well.

MrBuzz,
I don't even know what an SD card is.
