Wander Bug?

Postby ego martini » Wed Feb 16, 2005 6:22 pm

Has anyone any information on the Wander Bug - Small travel trailer from 1940s' Popular Mechanics plans. From what I can gather its about 10' by 6.6' and looks kind of cool. I remember seeing many of these trailers in 67 on a family trip to expo in Montreal. The frames hitch looks like it should be lengthened by about a foot, foot and a half - but it does look like it would have all the room I would need. Any thoughts or information would be great!

Craig

P.S. I have unearthed alot of info on the Wander Pup - The "Bug" looks more solid to me.

Just to check the obvious - you have seen the Wander Pup plans pdf on the Tiny Tears web site (approx 2/3rds down the page)?

Hi Andrew

I've been to the Tiny Tears website - I live in the boonies and can only get dialup here so this file seem to freeze at 20 ( I have problems with photos in PDF files). I can always get my "Big Smoke" friends to download it though. I figure that the two where somewhat simular - the wheels on the Pup trailer look a little scary to me - I like the idea of light weight but I would be afraid of looking back at a pile of tinder after the first major pothole at highway speed. The profile of the two trailers looks alittle different to me - the bug looks more rounded.

I had another Idea of taking a Modernaire style profile - enlarge it to fit a Wild Goose size Frame. Iam thinking that this would be longer then the WildGoose because the Modernaire extends about 1.6' past the back of the trailer frame ( this extention would be greater when you enlarge this profile as well) - so you would have a trailer that is about 13' about 6.10'H at the front and 6.6' wide. Would something like this be possible on a single axial trailer or would I be in tandum territory?I am think of a trailer with the size of something like a T@B. I have the time this weekend to work on design calculation on such a project, do you have any thoughts on this?
Thanks for your time
