I cant remember if Ive asked this but how deep are most of the "Back Cabinets" that youve built? I want to cut the back cabinet bottom sheeting out in a bit.

Its such a beautiful day outside with plenty of sun that Im pulling the Voyager out from storage to continue on the interior. Once its warm enough I,ll install the vinyl that is waiting.

For the New Folks here this is what Im working on in Reindeerland.



In hopes to have it looking like this then.

I would say anywhere from 16-24 inches, depending on how much storage you think you will need and how willing you are to compromise more storage with loss of cabin open space. Also think about how your doors will open and what space that will take. I believe mine was 20 inches deep.

Is 1/2 inch ply for the bottom cabinet part thick enough? Im trying not to go too heavy?

You will not have much of a 'span' and should not have much weight on top of it, so that should be plenty.

Mine are all sandwich construction with 3/4" framing and 1/8" skins, but they are way overkill and I did them to be able to put insulation in them, but that is really not necessary.

Heikki....I've used 1/4" material for the bottom of the interior cabinets and the cabinets in the galley. I wouldn't stack a bunch of cast iron on them, but they hold up fine to the clothes. The heaviest item that goes in is the Coleman lantern. The pots and pans and some cast goes under the stove on a sliding pantry...it's 3/8". Just what I've done. Doug

That's what I used, but it depends on how much cast iron you intend to stack on it. Jim

Thank You folks, sorry to say but no cast iron "yet" Only small Tv, and as you say clothes and small items.

We,ll see what we,ll eventually gather.

One thing though that sort of scares me is that I cant do any hole drilling from the outside.. so I may possibly use right angle aluminum or stainless to lay the bottom of the cabinet onto, however I do have the Kreg kit that I can use to drill the screws in at an angle, maybe that will help a lot and use a good glue with it..

Is this a good idea?

Im just so happy about the weather now and the sun sure feels good after a long period of darkness..

I also found some very nice presanded ply and board that is also presanded so it only needs to be cut to length and installed.

Its Birch, Oak and some Mahogany so Ive got some very nice choices..

including the thicknesses available to choose from..so got to get my hammer and saw steaming forward so just maybe we can get some camping photos from Finland for you.
