How long's the Generic Benroy roofline?

Postby shoeman » Tue Apr 01, 2008 7:12 am

I have not cut a template yet, and I"m trying to figure out how much aluminum it takes to skin a Generic Benroy. Anybody know how many feet long the roofline from front to back all the way around it is??
The sides are easy :D
99% of the way done with a Generic Benroy. Only because these might never be done if you like to tinker. But it's on the road!

Well, roughly it will take 16'. It is 48" tall and 96" long, figure it as a square and it comes out to 16'. You know it will be a bit less with the curves cutting the corners a bit.

Now, with that said, draw up a template in full size and just measure it around the top from front to back.

 If I had a full size drawing I would not have asked! ;)
I just had an idea... I'll draw in in chalk on the garage floor!

That's what I was looking for. I'm estimating what the various finishes might cost and this is a big help.

I was thinking the same question but actually I'm more concerned about the width. I want it to be 60" wide inside and with 3/4" plywood it would be 61.5" on the outside. So far I've tried calling trailer places (and some metal shops but they don't seem to have this kind of thing) and they have 4'x10' sheets, white on one side and shiny on the other, for about $90. Any tips on finding 5' wide aluminum or should I just keep trying around different places?

Thanks
Lucas

If you're over 60" your best bet is a semi trailer manufacturer or repair place. They generally have it on a roll about 102" wide. They sell it by the linear foot.

I looked up truck repair in the phone book and started calling around and they keep refering me to trailer places. I guess I'll have to just keep trying. I'm also going to try calling some of the online manufacturers mentioned in some posts and see how much shipping is. Thanks though and I'll see if I can narrow it to semi truck shops that repair the boxes.

That is exactly what you need to do. The semi truck repair places that fix the trailers are the places that you need.

I did find one place today that had 8'x52' rolls for tractor trailer boxes but I would have to wait for a partial roll before they would cut me a 16' piece for my roof. 8' is much wider than I need but at least I wouldn't have any seams.

The only other thing is everyone I've asked about the finish has told me its raw aluminum and I've read in some threads about non-anodized staining and scratching. So I don't know if I should even go with these pieces. I don't really want to use white either, which I guess is PVC coated? One guy I talked to said to remove spots you have to use Acid-wash. I guess I'll call SAF today too and see what they have.
