Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I pull my Teardrop with a Jeep Wrangler. I upgraded to a larger swingout bumper/tire carrier. So I took my old rear bumper off the Jeep and modified the plastic ends (using my bandsaw) and it bolts up real nice to my frame. I used 2" square tubing for the frame. These bumpers are on Ebay all the time for cheap. Looks good and I recycled something. I still have to paint the plastic ends, but you get the idea.

That's a really clean install on that bumper, and the ends really fit with it all nicely. Won't be banging any shins on them. Looks like it was made for it...Well done, well done......... Doug

It looks better on the tear than it does on the Jeep!

I have an extra one in the garage......now I know what I can use it for .

Nice looking. How wide is your tear? Jeep bumper?

Hmmm, I have the stocker off my XJ in my garage, well actually under it Might have to drag it out and have a look as I built the trailer to match the width of the Jeep anyway.

Thanks for the replies , I hope some of you can use it. My Tear 58" wide. The bumper is about 62" or so. My Tear is not here so I can't go measure it. But the Jeep tub is 60" wide. All I did was grind off the weld on the 4 bolts that attached the bumper to the Rear cross member on the Jeep. I also ground off 1 tab. Then I drilled through the 2" square tube on my frame and bolted it through. That was probobly strong enough by it self. But there was a second flange under the bumper that fit right in the center of the frame under the Tear. Since the floor was sitting on the frame I could not bolt through so I tapped the frame and used a hanger bolt (2") as a spacer. It is shown in the blurry picture.

Here is my bumper design. It drops down to access the galley and pulls out so I can add a ramp and carry a light motorcycle. I like the rubber ends and now eyeballing cars and trucks to see if I can find them to fit the 2X4 inch tubing my bumper is made of.

Hey Gus, that's an excellent idea. I don't know if this would work for you but It's worth thinking about. The front bumper on a Wrangler has 2 hard rubber bumper-ets. They measure more then 4" square I believe. They seem to be molded with 2 bolts in them, so attaching them into the 2x4 channel may be a challenge. I saved mine when I tossed my damaged front bumper. Here is a picture of what they look like on a front bumper. They could be cut and stuffed in the end and screwed in from the side to keep them from coming out. If you want to try it and can't find any locally ,let me know and you can have this pair. Good luck with your build.
