I used green deck screws that were especially made for pressure treated wood. Then I found tan ones that were marked "Pine". I'm at work so I can't take a picture of them. I'll try to post one after I wake up in the afternoon. These look like drywall screws but are much stronger, and colored. I've yet to strip or break one. Got them at Lowes.

Ron,
Mike S. recommended the galvanized bugle head screws. They are beefier than the drywall screws. They are stocked close or next to the drywall screws at our local Home Depot.

I'll take a photo of the screws that I use when I get home. They are galvanized screws that I get from home depot. I also buy stainless steel screws from ace hardware for the visible heads. I'll get a picture of that too.

Mike...

P.S. It looks like I'll be driving home in the snowstorm!!!

Here's the pics. I bought the shorter ones first then decided that they were too short. I ended up using them for other things when I was afraid that the 2in screws would poke out.

Here's just a sampling of the kinds of screws I use...

Image

On the exterior screws I end up with lengths from 1 1/4" up to 3".

On the Stainless Steel Screws I end up with lengths from 1/2" up to about 1 1/2"

I use Deck Mate screws. from Home Depot, made for exterior use, says lifetime guarantee, for whatever that is worth, what I like is it has a special tip, kind of a squared off #2 phillips, It's rare when you tear up the head of a screw using these. I also have a bunch of left over stainless from the boat that I am going to use. Drywall will rust and in my experience tend to twist off more easily. My neighbor gave me a load of square head screws for Christmas, so I'll probably use them also. Although they are not rated for exterior use. Doug Hodder
