Its starting to shape up....I still have to add the tail end. The shape was done free-hand....

Looking good. It's great when it starts finally taking shape and looking like a teardrop.

Interesting technique with the parallel spars. How did you come up with that idea.

You know it ain't how long the pipe clamps are...it's how many you have.

Anyhow, they are 1/2" pipe clamps and 60" long pipes. Can't beat pipe clamps, need one bigger? Buy a bigger pipe.


On painting the frame, it is painted. It was a HF 1800lb red frame. I painted it khaki to better match the wood. It's getting covered up in a wood skirt later.

My father-in law and I figured that the vertical framing was a great place to mount spars. No screw holes from the outside. We will mount spars every 4" along the top. Using Spruce 1X4's cut in 1/2 width wise.

Good plan on the frame. I didn't realize that was the final paint job. That'll work just fine.

As for them thar pipe clamps, I agree. I like them too. Problem is, I never went out and bought any 6' long pipe. My longest pipe clamp is something like 4'.

Ah well, I guess that's what they make galvanized screws for!!!

Well you won't see the frame at all when we are done. Also, the screws on the bottom will be covered by the skirt also. Basicly a wood board across the bottom.

All the top spars will be attached with no screws, just liquid nails and pipe clamps till it dries. Well, thats the current plan at least...

It will be lined with cedar board and be used for storage only. Not planning on a footwell. It is screwed, liq nailed, etc and would be ok probably but I am not going that direction. I'll just put a lid on it and then finish out the floor in snap together wood flooring.

Almost forgot, am I a teardrop builder yet? Or do I have to finish it to a certain amount?

I know it'll never be 100% fully done, I plan on modding it forever, add a lil more on all the time.


BTW: The fenders are gonna be wood....

Great work Eric. Seemed liked forever for me to finally get the two walls up. Finally feel like you're getting somewhere after all the thinkin', trailer buildin', thinkin', trailer paintin', thinkin, buyin' wood and stuff, thinkin....and uh...thinkin'. Thanks for postin' all those pics. Looks like that thang'll camp.
