...the easiest answer is...as big as ya can....30-32"Wx 36-40"H are pretty common sizes...try to keep the bottom edge around 2"s above the floor and no more than half your mattress height...this is to save the bottoms of your legs and shins when entering and exiting............

Mine are 36"hx30"w. I'm a small dude, so it would really be a personal choice. There is no set standard. 8)

I recommend the scientific pants method for minimum size...that would be waist size times 3/4 for width plus in-seam length for height. So if you wear 36x32 pants go with 36x3/4=27 wide by 32 high. Otherwise, make the door as large as you can, keeping in mind the aesthetics and what looks good to you. The doors on my build are 32 inch wide by 37 inches tall. I think most keep the bottom of the door a couple inches lower than the top of the mattress, and you need to leave some room on the top for structural support. 30"s wide seems pretty common for width.

Shucks..so much for my pants formula...Didn't even think about that because shorts aren't big on my Alaska wardrobe!!! When we went to Hawaii in January...the people on the beach had to put on sunglasses just from the glare from my family's legs!!!! I had to make up a batch of homemade SPF 65 to keep from burning!!!!

Back to doors...I guess Madjacks answer is the best.."as big as ya can"...my mattress just got in from Knox Foam (after an extended trip) and it seems like the insides are filling up pretty quickly with the mattress, cabinets and what all. Very cozy...but big doors certainly help so long as they look right!!

I have seen some tears with commercially built doors with screens. Has anyone found where to buy them?
