Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Hi guys,

We are gonna start building our teardrop really soon and i just wonder about the door. I still don't know if i will build it or buy it. What do you think ? Is it easy to find cheap doors of that size ?

Just build your own doors. They aren't that hard to build.

Ready made doors are fairly expensive to buy, since there is not much out there that fits...scrounging junkyards and then modifying your find is about the cheapest way to go for ready mades...making your own doors are pretty simple compared to that...check out the Generic Benroy plans for pretty good hints/ideas/instructions at door making....

These guy are right as usual. I bought a door and a couple of windows from a local camper dealer and it takes a good bit of work to make it fit a tear and put in a better window. May well be as easy to build one unless you come across a good buy.

I say build it - built the last two of mine - just make sure that they OPEN

here is a sketchUp rendering of a door that we used on the weekender. It uses household door hardware and hinges. very simple to make- Mine was square, however the same construction can be used for rounded or "D" shaped doors.

I think the real advantage in building your own door is that you can sort of blend it into your profile. Yes a radius is harder to do, but you get a better overall appearance to the whole project. A "bought" door means that you have to build to suit it, and it may not really fit with the overall look. Just a thought. Doug

The doors from Little Guy and those now found on EBay are quite nice but expensive. They would look good on a more modern style of teardrop while home built doors are more cost effective and look better on a more vintage style teardrop.
