Window Rubber Seals

Postby Randy S. Hager » Sat May 24, 2008 2:55 am

I've seen this on may pictures but no information can be found as to WHERE can I buy this stuff. I've seen it used on a Cabin Car tear. It was for 3/4" ply and it looked like 1/8" or 1/4" glass/plexi. Please, after hearing it all my life I REALLY do need someone to tell me where to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Randy,

Well, okay...

Go to Austin Hardware!

http://www.austinhardware.com/subcatego ... bCatID=189

AS 1706 channel, and AS 937 lock strip, assuming you're looking to install 1/4" glass in 3/4" plywood.

3/4" X 1/4" Weather Strip

Postby Randy S. Hager » Sat May 24, 2008 5:59 pm

MAN you're a life saver. Well I also found another site that didn't have me buyinga 50' roll.
http://www.hitechglazing.com/product/40005
that's only for 12' ft at a time and a 1/4 of the price. Well now I've been told where to go and I liked the trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW: I'm doing surgery on my home built sand blast cabinet and needed a better way to put glass in and be able to replace it if it gets frosted over.

Thanks
Randy

Hi Randy,

I gave up on changing the glass (plexi) in mine.

I use clear plastic page sleeves (like you get from the office supply store) and clear packing tape.

Tape the clear plastic to the inside of the window.

I get several hours of blasting per sheet.

Window Seal

Postby Randy S. Hager » Sat May 24, 2008 7:41 pm

Yea, I will also get the clear sheets to cover the glass but I need to mount the glass in a little bit better fasion then it's in now. The guy that built it just used silicone and mirror clips. Since it broke and I need to replace it I wanted to use the rubber weather strip seal and just un-bead it and change the glass if need be. Thanks Ron for your help with this. BTW I should be starting on my TTT by mid to late summer. Rear standie and front dinnette and sling bunks for my boy's.

I understand...mirror clips aren't the best method...

I would caution you though, to investigate the rubber and lock strip method before getting in too deep.
It was a real chore to install plexi in the rubber channel I used...and real glass would have broken, not because it can't be used, but because I'm not experienced enough to just "slip it in".
The pro installers make it sound easy...?

If you are talking about rubber window channel & locker strip like what is used on heavy equipment try silicone spray or dish soap ... any type of a lube ... petroleum jelly works too ... I worked for an auto glass shop for 12Y and we used silicone spray ... that’s how the experts make it look sooo easy

Hope this helps

window channel

Postby danlott » Sun Nov 29, 2009 1:46 pm

Sorry for dragging up an old thread, but I can not find rubber window channel & locker strip information anywhere. The links above are dead. Does anyone have more information on this stuff and where to find it. Pictures would be good also.

My walls will be 1.25 inches thick, but if the stuff is only avaliable for .75 inch thickness I can work around that.

Hey Danlott, I don't ever recall seeing any thicker than 3/4" (3/4" body & 1/4" glass ) , but if you check with a glass shop that does a lot of heavy equipment or even a heavy equipment dealer they might be able to help you .
Just be sure to cut your gasket a little bigger than the hole about (3/32" or so should do) and be sure to seal between the glass & gasket and body & gasket .. water will gwet in if you dont
Hope this helps

I'm looking for the same thing for my Puck.

This place has them in just about any size but they are in England and shipping is a killer:
http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/bbCMS/bbCMSrenderPage.asp

This place has them up to 7/8 inch:
http://www.fairchildind.com/

I called Fairchild a few months ago. Fairchild said then they will just sell a box at a time including the lock strip. I haven't bought any yet so hopefully that hasn't changed. If you can find someone they sell to maybe you can get smaller lengths. JC Whitney does but they only carry it up to 1/4" panel thickness.

I just got the paneling in the Puck far enough that it looks like I can maybe use the 7/8". A box is 50' but it is about 2/3 the price (with shipping) as Seals Direct and almost twice what I need. The 7/8" is very close, 1" may be better but then I need to order from England unless someone else here knows a source.
