When we arrived home from "Spring Fling # 10" I ripped out my low riding foot well in TD #1 that was for the "little Diner" feature that we never used. The new box weighs half of what the old one did and is now riding 10" from the pavement and is hardly noticeable. Getting into the box has always been a hassle so I cut the lid in half and installed a piano hinge in the middle. Now we won't be lifting so much of the mattress and the other side will hold it in place.

I like that...just might have to hack that piano hinge idea for the cover of my "wine cellar". It's a good storage space but it's a huge pain to get anything in and out of. I have a one piece mattress so having the hinged lid would be a plus.

I debated and debated about adding a footwell (still could I guess)...but I was certain I would tear it off somehow. Glad to see your solution works for you!!!! What did you do on No. 2 in that regard?

Dave, I made #2 foot well only 6" total in depth (#1 is 8", taller tires) from the top of the floor. I think I'll hinge it too to make life simpler for whoever ends up with it. Hopefully my gas mileage will improve since it was lower than the tow vehicle and must have acted like a dam in the wind. Now I don't have to avoid sharp driveways
