Ready to Install Headliner

I'm just a couple of days away from installing my my headliner and would appreciate your experience in a couple of areas:

1. Generic Benroy plans call for glued in headliner. Is it a good idea to provide for later access to the wiring in the ceiling should repairs or vent fan changes become necessary. If so, what are some good ways of doing so?

2. Do most of you (1) put the headliner in "one sheet at a time" with the joints falling at spar locations, or, (2) glue all the required sheets togetgher first and then install them as a single long roof panel? The Benroy plans call for the second approach, but I'm wondering what your opinions/experiences on this are since the joints where the glued panels meet would not be backed by roof spars?

Well...not sure about the generic Benroy plans...but I glued the headliner onto a big sheet of ply that I joined up...

Then slid the whole piece into a groove I had routed...

Worked ok for me!!! Make sure you get the right glue for a headliner!!

I install my ceiling panel from the outside on top of a deep rabbit before the spars. Afterwards I just lay a spar over the one joint that dosen't fall on a cabinet face frame. :D Danny

I build the Generic Benroy and did just like the plans call for... glued all the sheets together...

headliner under all that stuff. I needed weight to hold it together while the glue dried.

I Slid it in, in one big piece, through the gap between the spar and cabinets and glued it 2 to 3 spars at a time with supports.

Always save your scrap wood...it comes in handy.

Check out lots of other pictures on Pages 17 & 18 of my Build Picture link below.

Good Luck! thumbsup:

Where did you get your headliner Juneaudave? It looks really sharp. I was thinking about doing something similar to that for the sides.
