Propane line type

Postby boomboomtulum » Wed Jun 04, 2008 9:13 pm

Last thing on the build. I have a 1959 2.5 lbs LP bottle mounted on the tongue. What is the best method of routing lines to the stove? Soft copper? 3/8 pipe? 1/2 copper or what?

I used 3/8 copper tubing. Had to flare the ends to be safe with propane.

I used a 12' extension hose from Coleman. It runs along the frame held by clamps that have rubber in them so they won't chafe.
All of my connections are made outside the trailer. I ran the feed from the stove through the bottom and made the connection underneath.
It you have a 1959 bottle I doubt that they will fill it unless it has been upraded with the new saftey valve.
The extension hose made it easy since the ends were already on it.

Good idea, Steve: this is not a new subject.

Now a couple of comments specifically about the options suggested in this thread (which happen to be quite opposite of each other):

I would not use solid metallic (copper) line all the way to the removable tank, even with the spiral in it. I don't have ready access to any of the federal or provincial/state gas codes, but I doubt this is allowed... a hose is called for.

On the other hand, hose for the whole run also seems like an undesirable plan. I would expect hose to degrade with time much more than metal pipe, so I wouldn't want a run of it hidden, especially under the trailer getting pummeled by road debris. It's also a pain to support properly.

I think the best way to go is to use the right material for each section (tank connection, under trailer, up to appliance), as described in those posts.

Great thanks for all the suggestions. Back to OSH for more parts.
