Plywood, 8 x 4 sheets only?

Is there any chance that plywood can be purchased in other than 8' x 4' sheets? I thought there might be a chance since the last time we bought 2 x 4's at the lumber company there was the standard 8 foot and also a longer one - I forget the length though. We have also come to realize that square wouldn't necessarily be easier than the rounded profile. I see the advantage of 8' x 4' but that is too small for us and seaming takes us to yet another level. Thanks, Cathy

Cathy, if you dedicate yourself to looking in all the places available to ya, you might find 5x5 or 5x10 inna Baltic Birch or marine ply...be prepared to spend some truly mega-bucks on 'em...the difference in cost will more than justify the work to join regular 4x8 sheets into whatever you need/want....

Cathy, you need to ask for special order from your local lumber yard or box store. I could get 5x10 on special order from Home Depot but they were 3/4" and $100. At the time I was towing with a van and opted for 5'x5' Baltic Birch in a 3/8".

I joined them end to end and put a 12" wide strip of luan on back. Wasn't hard just had to watch the glue dry. I also used screws at the seams and trim to hide.

I bought 5x10x3/4" plywood at Plywood Co. of Fort Worth. $100.00 a sheet 2 years ago. Look for a comercial plywood supplier in your area. They also have MDO in 5x10x1/2" sheets

If you have a local sign company in town ask them where they get their oversize flat stock. They may even have some with a dinged corner they can't use and you could get a bargain.

4X10 plywood is fairly common, if you go to a real lumber yard they may even have it in stock. Make a few phone calls, if they dont have it in stock they should be able to get it within a few days. If your going to cover it up you could go with CDX, AC will cost more but has a decent surface but expect plugs. Most lumber yards get a shipment of lumber and plywood at least once a week, their suppliers usualy have them on a route.

My local plywood store carries ACX in 4x10 and 5x9 so thats what I used for the walls and floor since I didn't want seams.

4X10 plywood is fairly common, if you go to a real lumber yard they may even have it in stock.

That means any lumber place that is not Home Depot or Lowes. Usually the mom & pop local places will have it or will get it for you.
