Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Here is an idea for you folks to play with. How about a roll-up or slide up galley lid?
Instead of opening upwards it would go in to the body, like a roll-top desk would (except with no slats).
Then it would be easier to seal, it would not need a hinge, and it would provide a nice smooth look.

Shrug... I had considered tambour doors for the galley cabinets but not for the galley hatch itself.. Neat idea! Roll-N-Lock makes those roll covers for pickup beds - could very well work for a hatch also. Hmmmm!

Tambour? Is that what they are called? Cool. I got the idea this morning after reading abunch of posts on galleys, and hinges and sealing, and even props to hold them open. Something like the Cabin Car Nicks Page would work really well with that sort of thing because they galley is not the entire width of the trailer.

Could you use roll-up garage door harware, like the tracks and little wheels, mounted to the sidewalls? You could almost use the door panels, though they wouldn't be beveled correctly. Would you have panels in the door or could you do it in one solid piece? One solid piece would be slick, but would require some real headscratching?

I think the hatch could be one solid piece if it matched the curve it was being rolled in to. Doors are easier because they would be like sliding pocket doors. I think the hatch could work though. I will try drawing up something with the right shape. If we could pull this off it would be a design like no other teardrop.

How would it be easier to seal?
When I think about it, it seems it would be harder to seal.
With the hinged lid, you can have the edges overlap and wrap around the sides, with a roll top you'd have the in a slot, so water would get into the slot.

Try to picture it like a car window. The sliding door would sit in a watertight channel. That is how I am seeing it in my head.

If you start hearing voices that go along with that picture, you might want to see a shrink.... or maybe a mechanic.
