Just started first build and have some dumb questions

I am more or less following the "generic benroy plans." THe hatch design calls for a 3/8 notch to be cut in the side walls for the hatch. Do I understand correctly that this is simply a template for teh 1.5 inches spars to be cut? Will the peice I nitch out be used for anything later? Also is the notch that will then exist in the side walls to make room for trim/ weatherstripping or does it have some other purpose?

Also any good tips on bending the 1/8 luan?

Thanks for your help. The postive posts all over this forum are inspiring!

Kate,

The notch will be for the weather stripping under the hatch skin.

Since the title of your post says "FIRST" build, I was wondering how many you plan on building! :o

 Kate has obviously realized the futility of fighting the addiction and planned accordingly.

Kate there are no dumb questions. Good luck on the build and remember to do lots of :snappy:

In my experience, you don't need to do anything special to bend 1/8" ply. It's thin enough that it bends fine with gravity/hand pressure.

Thanks for the info ... As for the how many ... Just a slip (I hope) :) I ran into a snafu yesterday. I had hoped to do the outside roof in wood but I can only get 4 x 8 sheets and I can't get the wood to bend any direction than longwise. Can't very well have a four foot seam in the wood directly in the center of the roof. Maybe I will have to do aluminum afterall.

Dean - If you are still out there - what were the dimensions on your kid (width and height from the floor) cot? Thanks.
