Sunroofs

I don't see alot of sunroofs on teardrops. I really would like one to see the stars, and I want my Teardrop to look cool to, so I started looking at auto sunroofs and they were all $200! I stumbled on some stationary RV windows and I found one that is 48"x10" for $30 + $20 shipping!! I wanted a stationary window too so I can minimize the leak factor.

The opening I cut in the Galley wall was actually the same 48 x 10 and had rounded ends too, so I tossed the cut out up on top to see what it would look like and I think having it be so wide is very unique and cool looking...

Here's pics of it. I emailed the guy since the ad says it does not come with a trim ring, I want to be sure it is just decorative. If it will affect the sealing/installation of it, I will get an alternate one that is 36x18 that he has that includes the trim ring.

Thomas, I think that would be way cool...the trim rings are usually for the inside and can be done away with and something else done...as long as it has a flange on the outside, you can drill and screw(SS screws) thru the flange for mounting...use either a butyl TAPE or a urethane(my personal preference) based sealer...

 I like it!!! The only thing that could be any better (IMHO) if it didn't leak, would be a crankout that size. Than you could have both.... a sunroof and a vent.

I did a sky light:

I think I paid about 150, what I like is it opens and you can remove the glass without too much trouble.

I also made a way to close it so I can sleep in:

Nice skylight Jim! That was what I originally had in mind too, but the cost was prohibitive to me right now. I really like the unique shape of this one I found, but I might steal your interior cover idea, very nice! I like your web gallery too!

Thanks Madjack for the info on the trim too! I can see from the pic that it has the exterior flange, so that makes sense. I am glad because the alternate one has a white flange, and the black will look so much better with the black aluminum roof!
