I just noticed this as well. For anyone interested in buying one of these, don't just anticipate they will have one in since they are on sale. It was a comedy of errors in dealing with HF on these trailers for me in two HF locations. Be sure to:
- mention the item #40597 - they told me twice they had them, but it turned out to be the smaller trailer
- make sure they have BOTH boxes
- make sure the trailer documentation VIN number matches the one on the trailer

they wouldn't allow me to pay for it to hold it so I made sure to get there the day they got them in - and they only received a couple that were gone quick! and they never seem to accurately know when the next ones are coming in

The boxes on mine were REALLY beat up, but all was complete and in good condition when opened

HF Trailers

Postby An Ol Timer » Fri Mar 04, 2005 10:45 am

I bought one at the Utica, NY store and I had to wait a short time as they opened one of the boxes and copied information that was furnished to me on a couple of documents they said was needed to register the unit. They also had to copy the serial numbers from the tires. Not sure why the tire serial numbers???

I believe I'm starting this weekend:

Will this one do?

Has anyone else used it?

Any problems with a folding frame?

This is from the great Serial Number and Trailer Tire Act of 1843. Ok, just kidding. That is odd, I didn't even think their were serial numbers on the tires/rims - and they surely didn't look at them on mine :?

Doug,
Since you are considering the Kuffel Creek plans, you may have already seen this . But wanted to mention in case you didn't...

In comparing the 1175# and 1800# HF trailers, I liked the hitch much better on the 1175#. it is the lock-down type, not the twist-your-arm-off screw type that I ended up replacing on my 1800#.

Also, in Kevins description of the 1175# one, it says it has "3 leaf springs" and so does the HF link. However(and I may be wrong), I thought it only had 2 on each side of the display model in the store. I don't think this would be a problem anyways as I may end up taking one out on my 1800# frame anyways if I find it a bit bouncy.

Outstanding!!

They are cheaper than the 1800#'r, instock locally and they will match the internet price of $219 which is lower than their price of $279. Sounds like I have a start.

Also need to download some plans this afternoon / evening!

In a nutshell here is the reason...

In the fall of 2000, Congress passed the Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation (TREAD) Act. The act includes provisions in four major areas: tires, child passenger safety, rollover, and defects/noncompliances/recalls.

All of this was a result of the Ford Explorer / Firestone tire failure and rollover problem.

The bottom line is no more secrets and cover your ass!

Oh no...You might have to build another trailer...this time a "Tanker", I figure pickle juice is about the same as water so that means you should need about a 225 gallon tank. Now that's alot of pickle juice ;)

I purchased the 1175# at the local store about two weeks ago. It was on sale for $199.99. It does have three leafs on each spring. The guy at the store gave me the paperwork including the "title" and said I could register it anytime. I thought I had to have it assembled and take it to the DMV for inspection but here in the great state of New Mexico they let me register it while it was still in the boxes in the back of my truck. $99.00 for a lifetime registration. Woo hoo!
