I hinged all of mine at the rear bulkhead, but then again I just used shelves and no cabinets.

I did like Allen, put it at the rear bulkhead. I then cut holes in the bulkhead for doors into storage areas. The combination of the roof, walls, and bulkhead make it the strongest area.

On my Bear Bones Production model.

I laid it out so I could do the roof in 1 sheet of 4X8 for in front, and half of another 4X8 for the lid. So about 47" up the back of the trailer curve is where I put the hinge. That point is also where I started the bulkhead. This way I could get 2 trailers out of 3 sheets of 4X8. I always looked at building Teardrops as a Carpenders Job, so by keeping everything to Carpenders dimentions IE multipals of 16"..48" 96" etc. Makes planning a lot easier.
Happy Trails

From the ground up to counter height (around 32"), the back of my tear is vertical. The roof curve starts at that point, and the joist at that point is a 2x4. The hatch is not cut in yet, but the wood is there.
From the bottom rear of the tear, up 59", I put another 2x4 in for a roof joist to cut in the top of the hatch...... but, I will probably lower the roof and that will be part of the roof taken off.
So, I basically measured the kitchen counter and used that as the future height for the galley table... as it seems now, I will have a short hatch and a fold down table top. I expect the hatch cover to only be about 2 feet tall.

The question was: "Where did you decide to start your galley lid?"
Answer: "Why, in Nashville, Tennessee of course."

On the one I'm building now it will be 47" along the curve from the floor. With this dimension I can use the 48" cut-off piece from the 12 foot aluminum sheet to cover it. The first tear I made it 48" and had to buy one extra sheet of metal just for the hatch but of course some of the left over is getting used on the current teardrop.
