Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I've noticed most of you are using 2x2 or 2x3 for their frames. I have some 1-1/2x3 that I got for scrap metal prices. Is there any reason that will not work as well, as far as overall strength or problems with the torsion axle or tongue connection to the 1-1/2" bottom. I do have a couple sticks of 2x3 that I could use in select locations if that would help but I am trying to keep it as light as possible but strong enough for off road use behind my CJ8. I weld but I'm a carpenter and I tend to over build when working with metal. Thanks Bob

3" x 1.5" is ample, in pretty much any thickness, for a teardrop. It is stronger and more weight-efficient than 2" x 2".

You might like to look at this page of the 1750lb Escape trailer that says that it's built with 3" x 1.5" x 3/16".

Thanks Andrew maybe I'll just use it on the perimeter and try to come up with something lighter for the middle cross beams. I read somewhere on this board where someone used I believe a 2.5x2.5 center beam with a removable 2x2 tongue. I would like to use that idea,but I was wondering if there was any down side or anything to be aware of. How much slop if any would be acceptable? Bob
