Anyone know if these are any good?

There's a ton of them available for about the same price.

It takes a while to get the technique down. As I remember mine was off or on, no variable speed, so you have to get going fast. Also, I used it once..... or more importantly, CLEANED it once.. and I put it away and never used it again. That was about 12 years ago. The taking apart and cleaning it got to me..
I think if you had a big area to do, the cleaning might be worth it, but for things like a chair, in my opinion, not worth the cleaning ordeal.

If everything you are painting is horizontal and you're using self leveling paint, the finish is acceptable. I agree with the cleaning issue... it's definitely a PITA!!! I just got done painting my shed with mine a couple weeks ago.... but it's just a shed. I wouldn't even consider using it on my tear.

Well the ones on ebay run less than $10! ....so if it became a disposable...I wouldn't lose much and if it gave a good finish I might want to go that route.

I just bought a Wagner airless to paint our decks. It definitely cut down the working time on the vertical rails (to about 1/4th the time), the important thing is to "backbrush" or "backroll" to get your final texture. I guess another way to look at it is that the sprayer is a paint distributer to cut down on the time to cover and then you smooth the paint out with a brush or roller. So I can't see why a cheapo wouldn't get the job done.
Cleanup is a pain so I wouldn't really use it unless using the sprayer will save me an hour or more.

In that respect.... $10 isn't much different than the price of a quality paint brush. I may have to reconsider my viewpoint on airless sprayers.

So what you're saying is you'ld have to follow up with a paintbrush? If that's the case then I don't need it. I just painted the sidewalls on NAPSACK with a fine roller -- what I don't like is that from some angles you can see some areas of "shine" where the rollers overlap. It looks as though I'm going to just do another coat with the roller and get the finest coat I can. Don't get me wrong -- it looks good but if there was a way to make it better .....

NO! they are no good! If you have a decent compressor you should get a HVLP gun, it will paint at least 20 times better than even the best electric sprayer. You can get a decent HVLP at Harbor Freight for $30. I use a Sharpe Finex, it cost about $100 but is well worth it.
You would be better off using a good brush than that electric sprayer, those things are notorious for getting clogged and at best it will just spatter paint on whatever your painting.

Philip, I have worn out a couple Wagoners doing various paint jobs and they can be made to work...keep a rag handy to frequently wipe the nozzle off since they will splatter paint otherwise...cleanup is really no worse than any other type sprayer...you should hit those "shiny" spots with some 600 grit sandpaper to kill the shine or they may continue to shine through whether you spray or roll the paint on...
I would second Airspeeds recommendation about a HF HVLP sprayer, add an inline dryer/filter and it will give a very nice finish....
