weather stripping around door

Hi All,
I'm ready to instal my doors and had a question about where you apply the weather stripping. I'm using T molding around the outside edge of the door, and thought I would put stripping between the lip of the T molding and the molding outlining the side of the door -does that make sense? In other words, between the door and the side of the trailer. However, my plans don't leave any gap between the door and the side to put this weather stripping. The T molding smacks right up against the trim around the door opening. Should I just put it between the door opening and the edge of the door.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

To form the gap I used an 1/8" X 1" piece of aluminum (from Lowe's) under the body side of the piano hinge. Was perfect for the "D" weather seal and there are some pics on my web site. It seals well and I've checked it with the garden hose nozzle without any leaking.

My plan is to route out a 5/8"" wide, 1/8" deep channel around the inside of the door (1/2" plywood), about 1" from the outside. I installed a narrower frame inside the door opening, which reduced the opening by about 2" on each side. Right now, without weatherstrip, the door would just close flatly against the inside frame. I will install d-type, hollow weatherstrip in the channel that will compress and flatten out when the door is closed. Hopefully, there will be a surplus of about 1/8" when the door is closed, just enought to keep it snug and watertight. I will use a few straighteners across the door to stabilize it.

Thanks for all the tips. Denny, that's what I was planning on doing. However, I have 1/16" trim around the door opening, so if I use 1/8" trim under the hinge that only gives me 1/16" gap. Is that what you had? Is that enough?

Yes, that's what I have. The "D" seal compresses to almost nothing with no effort.

Here in the LA area both Home Depot and Lowe's both handle several sizes of "D" seal in white or gray colors.
