I was using my trailer in the winter and put plastic on the outside of the windows. Now there is tape that I don't know how to remove without damaging the paint. Can some one help me.
Thanks

They make an adhesive remover for such a purpose, but you probably don't have any on hand. I have used WD40 to remove tape glue and then washed off the WD40 with dish soap. :)

I use goof off or goo gone for that purpose. I always try a small spot to be sure it doesn't react with the finish. Either one will soften the glue so that it will wipe off easily.

It's going to depend on the kind of finish you have on your trailer.

Don't use Goof-off for goo removal. I've used Goof-off to remove paint and bathroom tub and sink sealants!

I wasn't certain about Goo-Gone, so, I tried some on an exterior water-base house paint can just now. With very little rubbing, it removed the paint also.

Since I've used baby oil to remove medical tape goo on skin I tried it on the paint can. To my surprise, even that started to remove the paint from the paint can!

Maybe your best bet would be soaking it with water with a lot of dish soap in it and using one of those "can't scratch" plastic scrubbers, very, very gently? Or, maybe careful but tedious scraping with your fingernails? Got a girlfriend or wife? Offer her a manicure and spa treatement in trade!

How about using a tarp and a tie-down rope to cover it next year?!

I would try either baby oil or rubbing alcohol.

Swissarmygirl's idea of trying alcohol is a good one!

I'd try that.

Try using a hair dryer on it.

Second on the hair dryer, works for us...

If the tape hasn't been pulled (what I think you indicate), warming with a hair dryer is a good starting point. Use enough heat to soften the adhesive. Any residue adhesive will probably respond to softening with vegetable oil (that has to sit a while). We use Olive Oil, but that's just because it's all we have in the kitchen.

For everyone: honest, get yourself a roll of Gaffer's Tape. It's waterproof, has a strong fabric backing and the adhesive is rubber based. It's designed to peal off cleanly and not damage the underlying surface.

Use a heat gun with a plastic putty knife. Then use mineral spirits or naptha to clean off the residue.
