The last pictures I saw it was realy looking good.

So, is this going to be the prototype for a new set of plans?

I know most that see my Cubby like it, but I see every thing I did wrong, while learning how to do it.

Yes, this will be the prototype; a teardrop trailer is just a byproduct of my main project. I'm rushing to finish to take it up to see Bennett by early October- I'm afraid his health is failing fast.

Sorry to hear about Bennett,

I remember you saying a couple years back about getting in contact and discussing your version of the Benroy with him.

Hope things workout, it will be a real loss when he is gone, but, my father was in the trade at that time and he's in his mid-eighties now.
None of the originals will be with us much longer.

As I go through this build I am struck with the creativity and industry of someone like Bennett that had the idea to design and produce these on a commercial scale. If I had worked straight it would have taken me three months of evenings and weekends just to produce one, and some of the work like the chassis fabrication is exhausting (and hot!). And I've been able to call Bennett and ask him measurements, details, and how he did things; he had to come up with it all himself.

I'll have guys write me all excited and ask if they can make multiple trailers from my plans and go into business selling the trailers. I say "sure, knock yourself out" hoping they're successful, but I know there's a reason they are not produced commercially on a large scale. There is an incredible amount of detail work even in the simple trailers, and if you had to charge hourly it would be more than what people pay for a nice big trailer with a bathroom, water heater, and shower in it.

So for Bennett to produce these for two years and stay afloat that long took a lot of effort. He must have been exhausted half the time and worried to death the rest of the time. He later made good in the RV parts business, but I'm glad he's lived long enough to see the resurgence in his stylish little trailer.

Wow, that looks great. I'm sensing the need to finish my Comet based build and start on another.
