2" x 1" x 1/8" C Channel for frame

Postby smithder01 » Thu Mar 10, 2005 10:20 am

I am designing my teardrop. I have some of this "C" channel laying around I could use to weld up the frame. It is shaped like an E without the middle leg. Do you guys think it is strong enough? My teardrop will be 111" long x 60" wide. I see most people are using the 2x2 square tubing. It would save some wieght, but I don't want to make the frame flex too much.

Denny Unfried used the same thing and as far as I know, it hasn't fallen apart yet.

I used 2" X 1/4" angle to build my frame and it seems OK, but it's brand new, has only been pulled around the block basically, so it's not proven yet.
