I am making The Simple, I was wondering whether to use luan or plywood for the front, back, and top. There will be no galley, just all sleeping space.

Also, what do I do to make the wood grain on the outside disappear. I need some other way than figerglass, I need something that is easy.

High build primer and paint. If you build enough layers you will get it. Just let the paint dry completely. You can use wood fill to smooth out any boo boo's.

Enjoy!

I wouldn't use Luan... exterior ply is going to be a lot longer lasting, and will maintain a flat surface better, especially with no aluminum or glass over it. Luans glue is also not for exterior use. Big Box store luan is the Anti-Christ! Others opinions may vary...Doug

properly sealed the luan is ....ok,by the time you spend the extra cash on sealing it though you'll have exceeded the cost of the exterior ply....no brainer there.

I've had the luan explode with a major crack when trying to do a fairly mild curve, there can be lots of voids/ knots etc... and the core is overall pretty crappy material. It's cheap for a reason. That was just my experience with it. I'd never use it again...Doug

I've had my luan warp like crazy. It warped so bad I ended up throwing away the teardrop sides and starting over.
