Water Tank

I bought a 21 gal polyethelene tank with 3 threaded 3/8" connections and one 1 1/4" hose fill barb to attach a 1 1/4" hose. The tank has no fittings and I would like to mount the tank flat and be able to fill the tank as well as pull water out of the tank to a faucet several feet away, as well as drain the tank. I need suggestions for all parts. I am building a 5 x 8 teardrop and want to be able to have faucet in galley area and be able to pump the water out of the tank to the faucet.

Thanks,
Sherry

Sherry, you might want to make a drawing to show the location of the threaded connections and the hose barb. Without knowing the locations it is impossible to give any useful advice.

Sherry,
Here is a thread on a few parts to get you started for the fill inlets.
http://mikenchell.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22167&highlight=

This is a complete plumbing diagram for an RV. However, if you look at just the areas you need, you can get a good basic idea of the water flow. Paying attention to the one way valves. You might want to add an air vent for gravity fill.

This water fill hatch also has an air vent tube port.

Hi Sherry,

Welcome to the forum.

When you lay the new water tank on it's side have the 1 1/4" and one of the 3/8" at the top and side. Big for the fill and the small one for the vent. At the bottom will be the 3/8" outlet. JC Whitney sells a little 12 volt pump and faucet combo with the switch built onto the faucet. Sometimes you can find them on Ebay. plumbing is simple parts at home depot or lowes. Hope that helps!

Wouldn't that size water tank weight >160 or 170 lbs. when full? Seems a lot

of weight to me but considering the quality of some water systems may be

the extra weight. Guess I'm assuming you would fill to capacity instead of

the amount of water required for your trip.

According to Andrew's weight chart, a gallon of water weighs 9 lbs. I weighed a gallon of water and found he was absolutely correct.

Allowing maybe a 1 gallon air space at the top, 20x9=180 lbs.

Other than the obvious mechanical tow-ability, I believe the TD and TTT builder has 3 major concerns to keep in check: weight, space usage, and water leaks. (Then, there's batteries, electrical, propane.....) :? In my opinion, this makes strategic planning of one's build nearly mandatory.

...Of course, there is that saying: "The greatest plans of mice and men oft go astray." (Oh, good grief! I hope not!)

Best Wishes,
Sharon

My trailer weighs 1600 lbs, so if my tongue weight is 10%, that makes my tongue weight 160 Lbs, which is kinda heavy for me, so if I added a 180 Lbs water tank under my galley, maybe my tongue weight would go down!!

I have calculated both my wet and dry weight.I should have no problem with this size tank. The tank will also set over the axle below the floor. I already have two other cargo areas below and I still have room left for battery and propane area that are completly seperate. I forsee no problems with my plans. But, we shall see.

Not sure why your image doesn't show, but if you compare this one to your first post that should help figure it out. You had the close tag on the image though?

That's a link to the whole album, wrapped in an image tag. Since the linked thing is not an image, I'm not surprised that the image tag doesn't work.

The image in the posts above was created with the following:
Code: Select all

I just right-click on the image from the album and copy the address showing in the browser's address bar to get the link to use in the image tags.
