Those of you that have TV's in your builds,do you know the size .

I'm at the point now where I have to plan out my cabinets . I now have an old Battery operated Black and white and at some point I want to install a newer color one . So I have to prepare for it now rather than remodel later. One more thing now that I have your attention. Any close ups on swing out stove arrangements...

Gregg ours is a regular 13" tv. Plenty big enough for a small space. We will be upgrading to a flat screen as soon as I quit spending money on other things.

Seems you and I have the same problem..

The only thing I wont like is my Black and White does not have a remote.
It's an old model -still in the box - that came with my 18' camper.....

I'll check sdtripper2's index and see if I can find few dimensions..

Sorry, I didn't intend to hijack your thread. As for a replacement TV, it depends on a couple of issues. What size cabinet space you can dedicate to your install, and how you are going to power it. If 120v A/C is going to be used then power source is not an issue, but if 12v is a consideration, then your options need to be creative.

Size of screen really is personal preference. There are few recent threads discussing these options from overhead flip down units, to portable DVD players. Kenwood, at one time made a decent size flip down unit, but only for a niche market.

As for the TD picture, I would like to think I inspired the idea, but no direct build input. I sent a few emails/pictures, and discussed how cute this idea would be to bring to the CES show floor. It would attract a wide consumer base. I work in a different division, and reiterated the ideas in the lunch room. Hmmm. several months later I was told a TD was going to be built. I guess the higher ups got the pat on the back. Typical corporate ladder stuff. Your ideas, are not your ideas, but the ideas of the people in charge.

I installed a tv when I built our trailer in 2001. We have never hooked it up to cable when we've camped. We've watched a total of about 10 movies while out with the trailer and we are out with it a bunch. Over the past year we've been bringing our laptop with us and have watched a movie or two on it. We also use it to look up directions or things to do in the area. Most KOA's and RV parks have wifi now. I am going to remodel our trailer this fall and take out our tv and convert the space into more storage. I will be adding a slide out shelf under the cabinet to set the laptop on.

A TV is a must for me ... My wife can not miss an episode of Desperate House Wives or there is hell to pay.
And Me, well, I'm a bird hunter that likes to camp on mountain tops alone with the dogs weeks at a time....I figure unless I can hold a two way conversation with my selffish dogs (spoiled) ,a TV to play a movie once in a while will help a great deal.
Anyway, I think I best head on down to W W and see what they have......

I can't help with specific sizes, but I would suggest to assume that the future TV will be a wide-screen flat panel, which is proportionately wider for its height than a old-style tube TV.

Any cabinet sized for tube TV will be deeper than necessary for a flat screen, so I would plan to mount the flat screen on a hinged panel, providing access for storage and cable connections. If a narrower but deeper current TV would fit on the same swing-out rig (as is commonly done in commerically produced RVs), that would be nice for cable access.

I also use a laptop and TV ~ USB plug-in module. The laptop is 15" Dell Inspiron. It is a Muiti-use device ( GPS-Movies-APRS-Photos-WiFi-Sketchup-Open Office suite-email....etc. ) for me.

I need room for the radios and antennas.

In place of the TV I also use a Laptop with a USB tuner. Keep in mind that next year an analog TV will have to have a external digital tuner to make it work.

Not a problem one on the hi jack if there was one.
What are the cost differences between a lap top and a TV. Besides I don't think I see another computer in my future.The wife thinks I spend too much time on it now and If I were to buy one for my hunting trips she surely will think I've lost it.

Dan,
Do you find any lag in reception through the USB connector? Is the tuner powered via the USB, or does it need an additional power source to run? It may be a good solution when the digital version becomes available.
