Minwax Clearshield Outdoor Furniture Varnish

Postby TRAIL-OF-TEARS » Mon Mar 14, 2005 10:56 am

Does anyone know anything about this varnish I just recently used it to varnish a BBQ cart that will remain outside. It goes on really easy and it makes a nice finish but I was wondering what the difference is between this stuff and spar varnish. The web site states " Minwax® Clear Shield™ is the most advanced Minwax® product yet for lasting exterior wood protection. " I already have a gallon of the spar varnish but, Should I use this stuff instead? Thanks
Steve J.

I've never heard of this Clear Shield before. It sounds just like their Spar Urathane, but it's obviously not, since they still sell that too! I wonder which one has better UV and weather protection? Anyone have any ideas?

...a 7 piece set of adirondak furniture made with cypress and finished with Clear Sheild has withstood the elements and all else thrown at it with minimal protection from the UV"s(shade) has stood on my friends' deck for over 5 yrs and shown no discoloration or damage of any kind..it seems to be an excellent product
