Camp Chair Anyone?

Postby So-Cal Teardrops » Thu Sep 11, 2008 3:03 pm

Here is a prototype for our new camp chairs. It's similar to a concept I've seen floating around the inter-web, but I drew it myself. Needs a little work before we start giving them out with trailers. It unfolds to two flat pieces that store under the mattress

Its neat looking.. I'm sure i would have to have one cut out of 1/4 inch steel though.. or the legs would prolly do a split and leave me sitting on the floor.. :) let me know what the load limit is.. ;)

You know, you'll have to make a you-tube movie of how to assemble that! It looks pretty cool!

Well, a few guys around the shop parked their arse on the chair, biggest one was 240-ish. No problems. Get a few beers in him though and it may be a different story

I'm adding a few braces to the next one.

I will try to get a video up, if I can figure it out.

Very nice  . Reminds me of the Boy Scout table planswhere you put up a picnic table from pre cut plywood parts.

Now that is nice!!

Very organic looking.

Now I know what to do with all that leftover ply from my build.

Do you have drawings for these?

Hey

It's very nice, Needs one thing.........a clip on Beer holder!

Pete Wilson

The clip-on holder could be done like a child seat that goes onto the edge of a table like a pair of forked fingers, the weight of the bottle secures the holder to the edge of the seat. If that makes sense to everyone. lol
Why hasn't anyone found a dead bigfoot? When was the last time you found a dead deer, bear, coyote, fox, squirrel, etc. that died in the woods.........Hmmm.

Looks like a good camp guitar chair as well. Matching table in the works?

Those look really nice! The only concern that I would have is since it's made out of 3/4" the legs are going to dig down into soft ground while camping. If you could notch some wider feet that attach to the bottom, I think that would help.

Actually, they are made from 12mm Baltic Birch (~1/2"). Yeah, the sinking feet are an issue that is being addressed. But what folding chair doesn't sink into the sand?

This is true. I love the design. It's absolutely beautiful but I think a small engineering change could make it perfect!

my folding chair is made from steel, and the back legs and the front legs are one continusous piece, meaning the back legs are connected by a cross piece formed by bending the material, as are the front... most folding chairs are similar and do not sink into sand. It can make them a bit awkward on hard, not-so-flat ground.

Many of the good 'bag chairs' have round pads for feet on each corner to keep the same from happening...
