I've seen a lot of questions regarding sealants while browsing the forum. I've always regarded Butyl tape as the most effective and longest lasting sealant around. Available at any RV dealer.

Any residue left behind after trimming wipes with a paint thinner soaked rag easily. Then glass cleaner to finish.

I used butyl tape also. It is cheap and it does not dry out and shrink. Good choice

I've worked for two different RV dealers and had no idea what you were talking about until I linked to the article. That's not butyl tape; that's DUM-DUM!

Used it on all my builds - don't expect that stuff to come apart easily!

In production we would keep Butyl tape in a wooden box with a light bulb to keep it warm, which made it much easier to work with.
Any that was squeezed ot would be easily trimmed with a plastic putty stick.

Removal was with a plastic putty stick and citrus cleaner. Tried many things but that seemed to work the best.

In the last couple years the switch was made to foam
with some still using butyl.
The butyl still has a better seal IMO
