sidewall cut depth for hatchlip

Postby jeff & maria » Thu Oct 16, 2008 2:34 pm

Hello.
we just cut out both side walls, now wonder what the depth to be cut off for the hatch lip close area. We are using 1/8 ply and alum. finish for the hatch.

Jeff the depth of the cut for the hatch seal is usually determined by the seal. Mine is 3/8 th I think. You can look at the Generic Benroy plans for information too.

I think 1/4" to 3/8" is about right. Any more than that and you might not get the seal to compress enough. But Miriam is right, It all depends on the type/thickness of the seal.

..a seal typically needs to compress 50% of it's thickness...that number plus the hatch skin and any other trim in that area adds up to what you need that cutout to be .....
