Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I understand the general concept of building a teardrop trailer, however, I'm having trouble understanding how to build the hatch.

Forgive my stupidity but how exactly does one achieve the the curve on the hatch?

I apoligize if this is posted in the wrong section. I'm still finding my way around.

Brandon, Have a look at the Generic benroy plans. I use the side wall as a template to cut two pieces of ply to the same radius and about 2" deep. I then use the roof stringers, cut to suit, to connect them at the same curve as the walls. To confuse you even further, I construct the framework by clamping it into where it fits.

I totally agree with Paul. The generic Benroy plans have a lot of good information in them, even if you are not building a Benroy. Read them... re-read them ... and re-read them again. You will be surprised how much information pertains to any design you come up with. After all, each build is an individual effort. No two are ever identical. And if you run into a snag, take pics and ask for help on the forums. Somebody will have an answer.

Yup, the Benroy plans taught me too, I didn't follow them for everything as most people do, that's the fun part is taking something good and making it your own. I referred back to them countless times.

It is actually so easy when you realize that you are cutting the angle out of plywood sideways, it took me a little bit to wrap my brain around it at firs too. Picture's worth a thousand words.

You can see the marks on the plywood, they are all the same size even though it doesn't look like it.


Clamp em all together and belt sand them to be as close as possible to each other:


Cut small sections of whatever length you want to go between them and start gluing and screwing!
